Hi! I’m The Bread Lady. I’ve been passionate about baking with sourdough since 2021, when I created my own sourdough starter simply by leaving water and flour out on the counter for a few days. The magic of sourdough captivated me and I’ve been baking ever since.
These days, the highlight of most of my weekends is baking a few loaves to sell at the local meat shop and enjoying a glass of wine while I chat with my customers. That meat shop is where I first was called the bread lady. People who were there wine tasting didn’t know my name, but they recognized me when I walked in with a box full of sourdough loaves, freshly baked and sometimes still warm. They would call out, “The bread lady is here!” And the name stuck. I never got around to naming my starter, but now I’m The Bread Lady!
The list of flavors that I make keeps growing longer, and so does the list of people who now have clones of that original sourdough starter! My mom in Wisconsin has it, my sister in Colorado has it, my sister in Mexico has it and so does her friend, not to mention my friends here in Washington state as well! At least three or four of them are now happily baking their own sourdough as a result. And I have over a dozen different flavors that I make regularly. Sourdough is definitely a gift that keeps giving!
Every loaf is lovingly handcrafted and is sold or given away within 24 hours of being baked. I use fresh jalapenos, rosemary, and lemons, and I painstakingly roast whole heads of garlic in olive oil until perfectly golden. I marinate dried blueberries and raisins in maple syrup before including them in the dough for optimal flavor and an extra burst of juiciness. Quality is everything, and I stand behind each and every one of my sourdough loaves.
Not only has this hobby helped me bring in some income on the side, but it has also connected me to the community in a way I never expected. It has been a fun, rewarding journey to becoming the Bread Lady!
